Breaking out the big guns..

Postby TSC. » Sun Jan 28, 2007 8:47 am

Just a few from my trip to London last weekend. We popped into the RAF Museum at Hendon, then went down to the Imperial War Museum

Messerschmitt Me262:

Sopwith Camel:

'Monty's Tank' - used in the North African campaign:

Oh - & those big guns I was talking about:

The gun on the left was mounted on HMS Ramillies between 1916 - 1941 & the gun on the right was mounted on HMS Resolution between 1915 - 1938.

Cheers,

15" and 16" respectively if my memory serves correctly. Beauties. :D

Shame too see the two recently airwrthy aircraft in shot one in a museum where the runways were dug up in 1969...

Nice shots. Until I went back to the IWM for the first time in years a couple of years back, those guns were the most vivid memory.

You forgot the good stuff.

Fw-190, V2/A4 and the Jagdtiger.

I tried to steal the tank from the museum but they searched my pocket at the exit.  ;D

I doubt you want that tank. It's got three rather smart holes in it's starboard side left behind by the chap who knocked it out with a Bazooka.

You're right. Might be better off with a new one.

We went to the imperial war museum on a school trip I was so tempted to jump for the ledge an onto the Mig and get in the cockpit and start her up.
