Camera batteries

Postby Mictheslik » Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:58 pm

Im out camera shopping tommorrow (to buy my EOS400D)

I was just wondering what the difference is between the canon NB2LH 720mAh standard battery and the much cheaper Hahnel HL2L 580mah. Just wondering what to buy in the way of a spare :)

Currently I believe them to be about the same, so will go with the Hahnel :)

any help appreciated.

Dont buy any of these if its Li-Ion (these go dead not by charge but by age)
Otherwise: more mAh means more endurance

There are ways to prolong the life of a li-ion battery. By the time it dies, providing it's been well looked after, it will have more than earnts its cost.

The Hahnel HL-2LHP (720mAh) is the direct equivalent of the Canon NB-2LH. http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/newitem_details.php?new_equipment_id=285

I got one thrown in with my 350D when I bought it almost 1 year ago & had no problems at all with it. It's always useful to carry a spare battery but to be honest I've never needed it.

i'm with doug, I have a cheap spare in my bag, its never actually been used, and thats on days where I've filled up a gig card and half a 512mb card. Always remember, extra batteries and memory cards are a photographers best friend though. You never know when one may go belly up.

Check eBay and see if the shipping will make the deal feasible ?........I got some spare batteries that way......one even came with a charger for use in the car.......

Today, out shooting some action shots of kite surfers and regular wind surfers, I discovered I'd forgotten to clear my 2 gig card before I left...........filled it and moved on to my second card in the camera........I try not to use the xD card as it writes so much slower than my 140x CF card.......I had a fresh battery in the camera as I had to put one on charge before I left, but the third was still in the bag holding a full charge......I usually go out with three gigs in the camera and three batteries.........as Craig just mentioned, lots of storage space and lots of batteries are the best thing you can have when out shooting........you just never know what may catch your eye and trigger finger.......... ;)

I Just bought 12 NI-MH 2500 batteries (a lot of extras I know) But my camera can get around 300 pictures on a charge with flash, but a lot less when shooting videos etc. Thing takes 4 AAs. I bought em cheap really cheap so I'm happy. Always have extras, you may forget to charge them or something!

Cheers, Gunny
