Interesting. I was thinking that I've been lucky enough to see most of these in the air. That was when the Farnborough Air Show was something worth going to.
That's the Short SB5. The P1 was the Lightning prototype.

But what is known is that when the single afterburner was lit it left it's Lightning chase plane for dead.


Nice story but I read in a recent article (by Bee Beamont I believe) that it's a fallacy.
