Interesting. I was thinking that I've been lucky enough to see most of these in the air. That was when the Farnborough Air Show was something worth going to.

The last one is the Bristol 188......amazing looking plane, very 'bling'  ;D

I don't think I've ever paid it the respect it deserves.....then again it's difficult to concentrate with the TSR2 peering over your shoulder  ;)

They really should get one airworthy (a TSR2).....can you imagine it?

It's the English Electric P1A. First prototype of the fantastic Lightning. I've seen that one fly. http://www.rafmuseum.com/cosford/collections/aircraft/aircraft_info.cfm?aircraft_id=29

I believe it was this particular P1A that my grandad saw when he was based at Weeton (somewhere near Warton) during his national service in the 1950s. He says how fascinating it was to see such a strange aircraft, especially back then. Loud, too!

Only one TSR2 was test flown a few times before the project was scrapped. Only one afterburner was ever lit so it's max speed remains unknown. But what is known is that when the single afterburner was lit it left it's Lightning chase plane for dead.

Nice story but I read in a recent article (by Bee Beamont I believe) that it's a fallacy.

I only say what is written on the Thunder and Lightnings page. Tis a nice story though.
