It was far away, but with the combination of the wind making most of the props land on the grass and the fact that the bit he was on was sticking out at the end meant that I could get close ups of landing aircraft with a 70mm on a compact digital.

Depends what you're after. He should obviously be able to get far higher quality close-ups with a lens like that.

PS. It's not unusual for warbirds like the Spitfire to operate from the grass. That's what they were designed for.

PS. It's not unusual for warbirds like the Spitfire to operate from the grass. That's what they were designed for.


I know.....but no spitfires went up
