Crop Circles.  The Farmers plant they're crops that way to help battle erosion.

It's all about irrigation Kris....the fields have a central tower for the sprinkler system which rotates about the middle of the field.....there are some which run in straight lines, but for the most part, the circular pattern is the predominant one....
It can be read about here

Here's a model of a center-pivot type; the idea's been around for a long time. The old type is just wheels with the pipe as the axle. You can clearly see how the circular pattern is caused. Some have a much wider radius... they're made up of modular sections, and the water spray pushes the whole thing around the center point.

I've also seen these; just like those lawn sprinklers, only really, really big. Chik,chik,chik,chick,chik,chik,...shikashikashikashikashika... the feeder hose on these is like a fire hose. It'd knock you on your butt.

That's from some hoaxers with string and wooden planks.

Or maybe aliens:

"Hey Glorp, whaddya say we fire up the galactic runabout and travel several thousand light-years just to make some whacky patterns in some guy's alfafa field on Earth?"

"Sure, Gleep, why not?
... but what's alfalfa?"

;D
