Proof of the climatechange... In my garden!

Postby Omag 2.0 » Sat Aug 12, 2006 8:26 am

Those of you who expected to see shots of my girlfriend sunbathing in a G-string, I'll have to dissapoint! ;D

I'm talking butterflies here!

This is the colibri butterfly, or Macroglossum stellatarum. It's a butterfly that travels over great distances and originates in southern Europe and North Africa. Lately they come up north in greater numbers!

They are really cool, look a bit like colibri's and make a loud hummingsound with their little wings...

Difficult to catch on camera, as it moves constantly!

I saw it for the first time in the south of France, but they seem to like my belgian flowers too...

Cheers,

Omag

It is. The Humming Bird Hawk Moth. http://www.rspb.org.uk/gardens/guide/atoz/h/hummingbirdhawkmoth.asp

De Havilland named an aircraft after it. http://www.edcoatescollection.com/ac1/austu/vhunw.html

In which case I'm not sure whether it's better than the monsterous great pink moth I saw at the window a few weeks ago. ;D
