Mini-getaway part 2

Postby beaky » Tue Jul 25, 2006 6:27 am

I decide to head north some more, still can't find the road I was looking for, so to salvage the day, I pulled off at a new place. A quick scramble down to the river (still a bit muddy from the recent heavy rains and flooding), and... we've arrived.

It wasn't really hot Sunday, but I was planning to take a swim after sitting in the sun awhile... but of course Peg had to go in right away.

... and then came right back out. Not the perfect wallowing-place, eh, Peg?

There we go... ahhhhhh. Peg loves to lie in the water...and always drinks a gallon or two. Burp!

Normally when we come here, I remember to bring her little life jacket so I can try to get her to swim. She always wants to follow me out into the river, but is an awkward and very nervous swimmer, and usually has to be dragged out a bit, at which point I release her and she swims straight back to the bank. But she surprised me Sunday: No sooner had I waded out up to my thighs (not easy on the slippery rocks in that current; surprised I didn't fall down and dunk the camera), when the old girl started swimming on her own. She got pretty close, but decided with the current pushing her away from me to turn upstream and head back to the bank. She did this three or four times, with very little encouragement from me! I was impressed. And no life jacket- good girl!!!

She went back to wallowing, then I called to her and got this extremely rare "alert" shot... uh, Peg, you've got your lip stuck behind a fang again... of course she can barely find me with the low sun in her eyes... over here, dummy!
