Truckers favourite "Truck" !

Postby Rifleman » Wed Jul 12, 2006 11:42 pm

In light of some of the things I've been seeing and reading about here.....Wendy and I went and took a couple of shots of a subject "dear to the heart" of our own Flying Trucker.........

Enjoy Doug ....... 8)

She's a beaut... almost perfect, except for one tiny detail. ;D

Someone ought to send a new student out to pre-flight this one, to see if they can spot the problem... ;D

For the price, it was the best value for money when I got it........I may have bought a different camera if I had unlimited financial resources........but who is ever happy with what they have when you can see over the fence into the next back yard........why is it always so green over there ?

Gosh Darn Ken my eyes are still watering :)

I would sell the old girl and all the grandchildren to have her in my stable.
Why is she where she is and do you know what happened to her prop?

I hope they don't stick one of those pointy PT6As on her nose and ruin her beautiful good looks.

Wonderful shots and thanks for thinking about me when you saw her, you have made my day :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Wendy was asking if you were talking about her here ?

I know you meant the bird ........

As far as I have been able to determine, the -3 is here from Alaska and is up for sale.
Its a 1956 Model(Serial No 119)........Did you want me to get you a price on it ?

I guess the easy way to describe the sound is to imagine a DC-3 flying with one engine.......... 8)

No thanks Ken, the price would not matter, however she probably would end up as a hangar queen if I purchased her.  I couldn't afford the fuel to operate her for any great length of time. :)

I know they are worth their weight in gold right now so I don't think she will be sitting there very long.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S.  The Royal Canadian Air Cadets camp at CFB Trenton opened last weekend.  They said they had to turn many young people down again this year due to the lack of civilian instructors again :(

Beautiful shot of one of my favourites, Ken...;)...!

Fozzer is confused, (as always!).... ;)..!

All my (Sim) versions of The DHC-2 Beaver are fitted with lovely P&W Radial motors... ;D..!
Now this big baby, the DCH-3 Otter above, is fitted with a P&W 1340 Radial motor... :o...!
Aren't they normally fitted with P&W PT-6 Turbo-prop engines...?
Or is there a choice of engines which can be fitted to the DHC-3 Otter...?
...or are they two different models altogether...?

Cheers all...!

Paul The Radial Man... 8)...!

This is the original Otter Foz. The turbobrop versions are conversions.

De Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter is a single engine, high wing, propeller driven aircraft. It was conceived to perform the same roles as the previously successful Beaver but was overall a larger plane. Initially named the King Beaver de Havilland began design work in January, 1951. Canadian certification was given in November, 1952. The US Army soon became the largest operator of the aircraft (under the designation U1).

The Otter served as the basis for the very successful, Twin Otter which featured two wing mounted Pratt and Whitney PT-6 turboprops.

Some aircraft were converted to turbine power using a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop. The Walter 601 Turboprop engine, manufactured in the Czech Republic, may also be fitted to the Otter. The PZL radial engine from the Antonov An-2 (a plane that fulfills a very similar role) may also be fitted to the Otter.

PS. All you wanted to know about the Otter here. http://www.dhc3otter.com/
