The floods of oh-six!

Postby flyboy 28 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:28 pm

We've had some non-stop rain the last couple of days. The Delaware River, separating New Jersey and Pennsylvania crested about 2 hours before I hopped on my bike to go have a look. I really shouldn't have taken my bike, because I'm out of shape, and it's about a 700 foot difference between our house and the river. :P Ah well, exercise is exercise.

Sound advice.

That'd be Pennsylvania.. underwater.. this is the third flood in a year and a half for those poor people..

Someones garden..

This is the bridge connecting New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Closed for now, obviously. Back in December (or January) we had some heavy snows, then it warmed up real quick. When the snow and ice melted, it actually washed away a house and the house got stuck here, under the bridge. I'm not sure what happened to it, but I'm sure by now it's floating somewhere in the Chesapeake Bay.. :P

That's it for now.. I didn't have time to clean off my memory card, so I didn't take many other photos. I have a short, 15 second video I shot with my camera just to show how fast the water was moving, if anyone is interested.

I would, but that place is so nasty. You post a vid about anything really, and people come and say vulgar things and so on.

Darn, that looks nasty! I've heared something about it on the radio, but actually seeing it makes it ever so real...

Let's hope it passes quickly!

I always feel bad for those people along the river.  Some people say why don't they just move but, living along the river can be great most of the time.

James, what bridge is that?  what is the closes town?  Is it far above the walking bridge near Ralph Stover State Park?  Sorry for all the questions!!

This would be the Milford Bridge, in Milford, NJ.. a bit up north from the Frenchtown Bridge. I'm not sure about Ralph Stover Park.. I've been there a few times but I don't quite remember.

For reference..

Here's another bit of reference. What I outlined in blue is currently under water.

So what? Ignore them. And most of the comments I've seen there are fairly constructive. Things usually only get vulgar when the video is vulgar, if you know what I mean... ;)

BTW, that's a bummer for those folks, but it's happened before; I hope they were prepared. Just because the Delaware is usually tame doesn't mean it won't occasionally get uppity.

And I wouldn't worry about biking when out of shape at your age... I'm sure your heart can take it. :D

Hmm. My left arm is feeling kind of tingly. Is that normal? :P

Have you ever been to Ringing Rocks Park.  My Uncle use to live down the road fron it and we went everytime we visit him.!!

Matter of fact, I have. I went running there a few times last year. :)

...or tall trees...

Paul....well above river level/sea level....
....and just a few small  shrubs in the garden... ;)...!

Water will give you lung/bronchial problems...
...and tall trees will fall on you...

The flooding has been crazy-Philly and surrounding area didn't have too many problems, but places north and west had gone to hell. :o
