8)

I'm not sure that's the real "Belle" though. Last I heard, she was still not airworthy, and won't be for a long time..

not sure if its her....but i forgot to point out....look under the #4 engine; she had a significant oil leak, that didnt stop all day. they other three engines were fine. tracks through that leak got worse and worse through the day.  :(

Nice. That's David Tallichet's B-17G, supposedly the one that played Memphis Belle in the recent film. http://www.fightingcolors.com/Companypageimages/belle_page.htm
I'm not sure how accurate that is. This seems to disagree. (Sally B based at Duxford is still panted as Memphis Belle on one side.) http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/oldstuff/belle/belle.htm

The real Belle is a B-17F & according to this will never fly again. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A1920520
The Memphis Belle will never fly again. She has been declared a national historic treasure by the Air Force, and has been moved to the Memphis Belle Memorial Association's restoration facility at the Millington airport, where she will undergo further restoration work for the next few years.

From what I can make out the Belle's dress is red on the stbd side & blue on the port. I found a vid of the original William Wyler wartime documentary here. It's now in the Public Domain & well worth watching if you've never seen it. http://www.archive.org/details/TheMemphisBelleAStoryofaFlyingFortress

That's a G? I guess they took off the distinguishable nose turret.

And "recent" film? It was made in 1990! :P Oh well.. it's more recent than Willy Wyler's documentary (1944) ;).

Is that first one a F-4 Wildcat? Looks a bit chubby, but very adorable...

Like Hagar said, it's the Wildcat's older sister. She was designed after Pearl Harbor, and first saw action at the Batle of Midway. ;)

Tallichet's 17 played the 'Belle in several shots in the film. Between them I the B-17s wore a large number of indentities, and "Sally B" played the 'Belle for the film's final scene. It has retained the colours and the movies stylised nose art on the right hand side since.

Tallichet's B-17 has the more original nose art without the stylised writing that adorned the aircraft in the film (as shown in Doug's link)... :)
