61's Cosford - BBMF

Postby 61_OTU » Mon Jun 12, 2006 3:52 pm

Well, if Craig went to Cosford to see the Typhoon, I went to see the Lancaster.

I'm sorry if some of these are repeated from Craig's shots, I've tried to avoid it if possible, but can you ever really see too many pictures of these planes?  8)

This was the last display for the Mickey the Moocher paintscheme apparently, not sure what's on the books for the rest of the season? Maybe they just meant the last Cosford  ???

you've captured the wing shape of the spit perfectly. Wonderful shots. These guys had everyyone in the crowd where I was just stood absolutly still watching and clapping at the end. Not even typhoon or the reds managed that.

I believe the Lanc is overhauled (and repainted) every 6 years or so, so I imagine it'll transit down to St Athan at the end of this season...

Very nice shots BTW. I love AB910's azure blue undersides... :)

That explains it then, I couldn't see how they were going to repaint it before the next airshow appearance.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments, the shot of the underside of AB910 is one of my favourites from the day, understated, sharp shot, smooth undersides, nice and shiny.....makes me want to fire up CFS3 ;)

For me, it was also the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and The Lancaster - PA474 especially.that drew me there, I've been sunburned to a redskin, but, what the hell!

A great day, with some incredible sights and sounds.

I found it deeply moving that applause broke out as the Lancaster, Spitfire & Hurricane slowly flew past, it was a wonderful moment for me, and, I think many others watching.

Was I the only one who did'nt watch the rest of the BBMF display and just followed The Lancaster - PA474 on her graceful circuit? just incredible, I thought.

Very sad that The Lancaster - PA474 is  one of only two airworthy and displaying Lancasters left in existence, but, that said, Its 2 more than Concorde ,I suppose.  :(

Just fantastic Steve. Last year it seemed that everywhere I went I saw the Lancaster, even flying over my house twice. This year I have yet to see it at all and it's only schedule to be at one more show I'll be visiting. Still, I'm off to Coningsby tomorrow so I hope at least I'll see it on the ground.
