CAF Fifi

Postby B747 » Sat Apr 22, 2006 4:56 pm

Took this on Labor Day 1977 at CAF show at Luke AFB in Litchfield AZ.  108 deg that day, Fifi is taxiing thru the crowd and I was overwhelmed with the time warp effect of modern (old today) and historical contrasts.  Hope you enjoy too.

The thing that really did it ( and that you cant capture) is that FIFI is in motion in this shot under her own power with all engines running.  Aircraft in the hazy distance with the similarly dated structures moving through the present day crowd is what really gave me the Twilight Zone feeling.

What a neat memory. She was still sporting the non-PC name... ;D
I also love that guy in the center foreground with the totally-70s shirt and the cap on... something tells me his friends called him "Bubba". :D
And what is that blue car? Cougar?

Wow! Nice shot. I expected a B-29 to be a bit higher on the gear. Are all Skyqueens like that?

I was amazed when I saw your picture of the B-29 at litchfield.  My dad and I were there that day sitting under that plane!!!  Extremely hot day and no shade for spectators.  The croud was extimated at about 100,000 and there were ambulances going around helping those who couldn't take it.  We finally left just after the flying started adn our car almost overheated getting out of the parking lot.  Lots of great planes there that day.

Thanks,

Jim
