Elk Falls

Postby Rifleman » Mon Apr 24, 2006 12:29 am

This morning, Wendy and I travelled to the Campbell River area where there is a Hydro-Electric dam on a local river.  The day was sunny and almost too bright for shooting without any ND filters......these shots had to be corrected a tad on the extreme highlights of the running white water.......

For your viewing enjoyment, beautiful B.C. in its raw glory..........I left people in the first one for size reference.

A little further down the river........

From as close as I could get on the falls side.......

After a walk around the canyon, I climbed down to where I could get a full view of the 25-30 metre drop.....

That looks like a potentially good place for some falls-jumping... reminds me of Vermont.

Sorry Craig, the dam isn't all that easy to access with the fences they have up......all we could see was the long ducts from the top of the dam leading down to the turbine/generators.......next time I visit, I'll make more of an effort to get myself shot and bring you those pics.... ;)

When I first got to the view from the top, I was reminded of another place from near your area......and although its not quite as deep or spectacular here, it did flash back memories of Ausable Chasm ........... 8)

I share these with eveyone as some people may never get the chance to see this kind of place.........there's too much beauty for just my two little eyes........

To me it has an extra dimension... it looks real! I mean, when you see this in an American movie or documentary, there's always that kind of a haze in the shots. I mean, European film seems so much sharper and with more realistic colours. It must be the film or the lenses they use over the pond, but you can see wether a movie is American or not...

Now, to get back to my point, your shots show things as they are... just like I was there... and that I like...  ;)
