But I was listening to the CTAF as soon as I cleared the ridge, so no problem.
I decide to make a beeline home, with maybe a stop at Solberg.
I have another try at tuning a radial to simplify things for better time, but I still can't figure out how to switch it so the freq. knobs control the nav half of this old box instead of comm. Only flown this puppy once before, and only in the pattern.
As I settle on a rough heading, I realize it's such a fine day, I can see the reservoir near Solberg from here, about 30 miles away. So I forget the VOR, and ease 7QJ into a shallow power glide back down to 2500, hoping to pick up a little time.
But it's not needed, really- the tailwind whips us along (no GPS and no time or inclination to calculate groundspeed, so... no tall tales, here), and soon I'm making my first approach since the end of January at Solberg. It was not too shabby. The last one shows the moment of touchdown.
