Spring has sprung! part 2

Postby beaky » Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:30 am

The world below is just starting to turn from brown to green, and the visibility is superb. Nary a cloud in the sky, either.

Here we see Stephen, aka Jinx, exhibiting the three classic stages of the first-time-in-a-light-single passenger...

Euphoria:

Calm acceptance.

He is a very good passenger; didn't vomit, and didn't complain about how 7QJ wasn't even as fast as his Honda VFR...

My plan to make a stop at Hackettstown is dashed when I realize my watch has stopped (pulled the pin out by accident), and when Jinx gives me a time check, we're past the ETA. Oh well... clearly I miss seeing the airport because my superb navigating skills took us right over it... ;) ;D
Here are some more lovely green fields... Very soothing terrain to have below you at 2500.

I'm headed now for a landing at Stroudsberg, and as we approach the Delaware River, I see that I'm a bit north of course. I am certain now that we're heading for Blairstown, just east of the river... and there it is. no landing here, though: very busy today, with lots of glider traffic. The afternoon sun is already building some convective turbulence and massive thermals along the ridge- I'm a little too rusty, i decide, to get myself into that cauldron with several singles and gliders swarming around in the bumpy air.

Next: More surprises...

I was pointing out a Mooney zooming the other way several hundred feet below... Jinx (with the camera) missed it.
If we were trying to check out a woman, I would've gone much lower... ;D

Looks like you two had fun.

Now I hope the passenger bought the beer while you explained to him your aviation attainments. ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I tried to pay for everything, including the beer and Portuguese BBQ afterwards, but he shoved money at me... even gave me avgas money.
What- I'm going to drop money out of my hand?
He knows my weakness... ;D

It was satisfying to introduce an admittedly nervous friend (who set a personal speed record on his bike rushing to the airport, go figure)
for his first light plane ride and have him arrive intact, very entertained, not covered in vomit ... and  with lots of video footage to boot. Excellent refresher flight.
;D

Maybe you have just introduced a friend to the same passion you enjoy, that would be excellent if he decides to get his licence.

Then the next step would be to form a partnership and buy a three wheeled winged bike ;DLOL

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
