My Weekend

Postby TSC. » Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:06 am

Hi all,

Just a few shots from my trip to Liverpool this weekend - this is Nemo's neck of the woods, so he might be able to tell you more about the area.

A view across the Mersey to the city centre (I haven't done much research into the area, but that thingy in the middle is a 'boat' & them sticky up bits behind it - well they is 'buildings' - yes sir):
Image

A raised German U-boat (U534) now sitting at Birkenhead docks - unfortunately this was closed to the public on Feb 5th, so I didn't get the chance to have a look inside - gutted:
Image

A quick pic to show the size of this monster - both from the same country, except one is slightly better on the motorways...............:
Image

The weather I awoke to on Sunday morning, fortunately it hadn't affected the entire country, so my journey back south was hassle free:

Cheers,

TSC.

Great shots there TSC,

yep the thingy in the middle is one of the famous mersey ferries (can't tell you the name though) and just to the left is the Sea Cat,

Also in the picture you can make out the Liver Buildings and the Anglican Cathedral and even the Radio City Tower (st johns beacon).

Nice picture of the U-Boat aswell, did you know there have been a few accidents in the area, mainly because on a very foggy and misty day people driving around the corner are not suspecting to see it there (also you have to book to go and look around the U-Boat).

Nemo...........

Fascinating. I don't ordinarily think of U-boats when I think of  Liverpool... but it makes sense.

Nice one eno, i was going to do this but decided it would ruin a perfectly good photo.....

i've just showed this photo to my auntie who works opposite me thinks the John Moores building is The Old St Paul's Eye hospital which is now occupied by both John moores and is still part of the NHS Trust.....

I'm sure it's John Moores .... my mum worked there for 15 years the eye hospital is over the road. I think its the lower building just in front.

That makes more sense ;D

I can't imagine why someone would want to ruin something as historically significant for no apparent reason ::)

Points all round - I meant that I was gutted at not being able to go aboard the U-boat. The U-boat itself is far from gutted:

Picture from HERE, along with a lot more pictures & info about U534.

I've been reading that article. It seems the future of U534 is not at all certain.
