Southampton water

As some peeps around here already know I treated myself to a new camera for my birthday. For about 6 weeks I've been practicing ready for the forthcoming display season. I promised to post a few so here's some I took yesterday at Southampton while waiting for the Spitfire flypast. On the water for a change.









Some of these were taken almost directly into the sunlight. Good practice for places like Duxford. Apart from cropping & resizing in IrfanView I've done no post-processing at all. Camera is a Canon 350D with an EF55-200mm lens.

OEH!!! That last one is definitely going to end up as someones wallpaper!! Magnificent stuff Doug. Can't wait for the airshow seasen to kick off there and to see your lovely picture reports of them!

Doug with few exceptions planes are a lot faster than boats... but nice to see the sea, I miss it sometimes.

Nice stuff Doug.....this is the first I've seen of you getting up into a more advanced camera.........

A cloudy bright day is just about the best sky to shoot under....very consistent light to help in ensuring that you don't get hotspots from overexposure of highlights......good shadow detail too..........

Is there a stabilizer on either the lens or body, for those long zoom shots or will you need a tripod on less than optimum days ?

Lately, I've been looking into upgrading to an SLR, but the final restraint is always financial for me.....I do have my sights set on one in particular in any event. Its just a matter of time and what technology is released by the time I do have the pesos all gathered together.....

Thanks Ken. As Charlie will tell you I've had my eye on this for some time & decided to go for it. What I don't know about photography would fill several large volumes but I'm delighted with the results so far & how easy it is to use. The stabilizer would be on the lens. It's not necessary on this one (200mm) but if I go for more zoom I will probably need one with that feature. That obviously adds to the cost.
