Landmark of my area....

Postby F3Hadlow » Thu Feb 02, 2006 3:07 pm

This is a well known landmark in the area I live in, North East England. This is about 15 miles away from me. Sorry for the quality due to it being taken out of the window of a fast moving car on a motorway on the way back from Leeming in fading winter light just thought it might be of interest :)

The angel of the north. Or so I believe, there are smaller copies around the country called various differant things.

Looks like a caryatid with a Porter wing strapped to her back... but it has a certain... presence to it. Kinda cool. How tall is it?

That's a monument for the coalminers in that area, isn't it? It must be well designed, cause I can hardly image what the pressure of the winds must be on those wings! I saw a travelshow on the telly, where they visited this spot! It looked amazing! Trust me, it's huge!

Its a shame that one of the most well known landmarks of the area has been changed, never to be the same again......

When Marsden Rock fell, a piece of history was erased for ever........this was very close to where I lived as a young lad.........
