NJ Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum part4

Lots and lots of cool little displays here; very hard to photograph. this case fullof models came out OK:

This is one of three walls in the Hall of Fame Room: all of these aviation notables were NJ natives or made their mark here, if I'm not mistaken. I recognized Paul Styger right away: he was the owner of Sussex Airport, which up until recently hosted the "Biggest Little Airshow" that I loved so much.

A dedication wall to Artheur Godfrey, who hung around Teterboro quite a great deal. there are numerous tributes, signed memorabilia, etc... there's a pretty comprehensive tribute to American women in aviation, set up by the 99's... I couldn't really get a good picture of it.

I had to include this gorgeous lithograph...

Here's a Flying Tiger's (?) leather flight jacket, complete with rare "blood chit", which helped downed airmen gain the trust of any Chinese they happened to meet.

Next: finally- a look outside (that's right... AIRCRAFT!!)

Errr... sorry; I did read the card on this one, and all it says is that it was a blood chit- no particulars. If you don't even know what they were for, I'm sure one of our armchair historians will clear it up for you. Meanwhile, start Googling...I'm busy. ;D

I can't read Chinese but think it basically says something like: I am an American pilot fighting for China. Please give me assistance.

Thanks Doug, I thought that's what it was. The name was so dramatic I wondered if there was more of a story in terms of what promises it made on the pilot's behalf, financial reward etc.

That's quite possible. Aircrews often used to carry some sort of 'blood chit' like this when operating in a foreign country. I've never seen it printed on a flying jacket before.

PS. Here you are. http://www.flightsuits.com/patch_chit_silk.html
"This foreign person has come to China to help in the war effort.  Soldiers and civilians, one and all, should rescue, protect, and provide him medical care."  Issued by the Commission for Aeronautical Affairs.
