Weird!!
How could a prop plane break the sound barrier?
Unless it was in a dive.... ???

Definetly an edit because E-2 topspeed=338 knots(626 km/h)
If they want to make us believe that props can go supersonic  then they shouldn't use the E-2, they might have tried with a Tupolev Tu-95/-142 'Bear' topspeed=499 knots(925 knots) 8)

It's hard to tell if that is the orginal or not. They are both too grainey (is that the word?) to tell.

But it is a cool shot anyways.

That F-18 shot is a real good one, I'd like to have that in it's full size. It would make a great backround pic!

Anything with props would be vibrated to pieces if it approached supersonic speeds!
Therefore you get the honour to attempt supersonic prop flight first ;D I actually saw a documentary about the quest to reach supersonic flight the otherday, very interesting it was, about the turbulent air at high speeds and
loss of control and such      8)

If you are on about the FA-18 image, it is real, I've seen a video of that very FA-18 breaking the sound barrier - perhaps that's a still image from the video (?)

It's spelled grainy. I chose this one because of it. You can get a higher res version here. http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Jul1999/n07161999_9907162.html

I've read several accounts of piston-engined fighters breaking the sound barrier in a dive during WWII. Some survived the experience & it could also be the reason for some unexplained fatal accidents. This could never be proved because it was almost always during combat & they had no instruments capable of recording it.

Bear has fast (swept) wings...

But given enough moisture content you can get your tips make supersonic anomalies
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Just because it has a lot of condensation forming on it, dosen't mean that it's going supersonic.
