I like the P-51 but, any of a P-47?
Don't you have any of Ferocious Frankie?

Strangely, I was always under the impression that the Sopwith Camel was British. Now I realize that, having either a Clerget or LeRhone engine, it was French. Plus, when a certain German ace admired the LeRhone engine he'd had mounted in his Fokker Dr-1, he was proud of his little French plane!Actually, the Mustang is British!
The P-51 was designed as the NA-73 in 1940 at Britain's request. The design showed promise and AAF purchases of Allison-powered Mustangs began in 1941 primarily for photo recon and ground support use due to its limited high-altitude performance. But in 1942, tests of P-51s using the British Rolls-Royce "Merlin" engine revealed much improved speed and service ceiling, and in Dec. 1943, Merlin-powered P-51Bs first entered combat over Europe.

....impressive

It might have been designed to meet a British specification but the design team & engineers were all American. The head of the design team Edgar Schmued was actually a German immigrant.

Yes but the Engine is a Merlin, which is British. The first Mustangs had the Alison engine and were quite poor. The Mustang only became great when partnered with the Merlin...

I think our American members might argue with that.

Many Boeing airliners are powered by Rolls-Royce engines but that doesn't make them British.

Should I mention that a B model is nearly fully restored at Duxford now.... I think it'll be flying this summer

Stunning.I love that one of JJ - shot #2.

I hear that the TFC P-40 has now joined PT's collection in exchange for the Staggerwing...
