MH434

Postby 61_OTU » Wed Dec 14, 2005 6:37 pm

I'm new to airshows, the two this year (Duxford BoB and Duxford Autumn Airshow) were the first I had attended.

After the recent death of Ray Hanna I was sure I had seen MH434 at at least one if not both of these shows. I've finally got around to checking my pictures and I thought some of you might like to see these. I'm not certain but at least at the Autumn show I think it was Ray flying MH434.

I'm not certain, but I think MH434 is the lead in this pair

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Wow....lovely. :o
It certainly is very sad to hear that Ray has passed away.... :(
Anyway, would that happen to be a Mk. V or Mk. IX Spitfire?
Cheers  ;)

A Mk IX. The Mk V didn't have the two square rads under the wing. On a Mk V the left wing has a circular oil cooler, and the Mk IX has a square one. At least I think it was the oil cooler.......

Indeed. The Mk IX also has a 4-bladed prop. Nice shots of a little piece of history.

I have a photo hanging over my PC of MH434 signed by the man himself. It's described as a Spitfire LFIXB. http://www.ofmc.co.uk/aircraft/spitfire_hist.htm

Just one of my shots I'd like to add to this thread. This shot was taken at Flying Legends 2003 and it shows the sadly departed Ray Hanna displaying MH434 with the Breitling Fighters when they were still in the UK.

I saw some pictures of MH434 on the web today (during my, ahem, lunch) by Roger Hadlow. Relative?

A very fine tribute. Ray Hanna was buried yesterday with flypasts from the Reds and a Spit (MH434 I presume)
