Some KEWR Arrivals

Found a pretty good side-street under the Rwy 22 L/R approaches for taking pictures... without further comment:

My parents are taking me to Newark to planespot for my birthday, then going to Famous Dave's (bbq) in Springfield for dinner. 8)

Nice shots, by the way.

It's here, on avenue K. Best way to get there is to get on Rte. 21 off the Turnpike or 78, then go east on south St. After it bends and becomes Stockton, you turn east on Wilson then take the first right onto ave. K.

There may be a spot closer, but this is a nice industrial dead-end where you can pull over and not draw attention to yourself.
Bear in mind that  I used a zoom; the planes are not quite as low as they appear (although they're pretty damn low at that point)
When's the big day? I might have time to reconnoiter a little more and suggest a better spot beforehand, or perhaps we could meet up and I'll act as your guide.

I see quite a few FedEx DC10s operating here regularly... still a fine workhorse.

Thanks for the IDs... knew I could count on somebody here for that.
That last one would've made a nice little video clip- they were jinking  just then to get back on the centerline; the wind was picking up. The plane was still rocking when I lost sight of it...

It looks like a 757 to me. Though I'm no airliner expert :P

Very nice indeed.  ;)

Airliners are not really my cup of tea, not modern ones anyway, but I keep intending to pop up to Gatwick & try my hand at some of the bigger stuff. Unfortunately there's a solid security fence about 12 foot high around most of it these days. This wouldn't really matter for aerial shots which seems to make the idea of the fence ridiculous. ::)

I don't think they have much time for spotters at Gatwick these days. My favourite old spotting haunt on the end of the runway is usually swarming with police & security guards now & of course that darned fence means you can't see a thing. I used to enjoy taking my daughter there to watch the big airliners taking off straight towards us. Some only made it by what appeared to be a few feet over our heads. That would have been perfect for photos but I don't think digital cameras had been invented then.

You might want to do as I did: find a spot under a runway centerline that's not near the airport property. Avenue K is perfect, too, as there's not much activity on the weekends; plenty of parking and no fools around to cry "terrorist!" or whatever. Even without a zoom camera, they're low enough there on approach that it's pretty impressive.
Taking off, of course, they've already gained too much altitude usually...
