The exhibition pt 2

The other wing, the riveting is beginning to haunt my nightmares
Image
All those ribs inside the wing need annealing. Oh no....

Rotol 5 bladed prop up front (with spinner)

The original Spitfire wind tunnel test model, never before seen!

The genius himself, RJ Mitchell
Image
An oddity, the head of this hammer is made from one of the wing bolts from K5054 the first Spitfire, again never seen before!
Image
Some odd bits, what are they? Doug and Will you're not allowed to play ;)

Well there is a drum from one of the 20mm cannon and some ammo including some of that .303 rubbish, but I have no idea what those other bits are. One looks like a header tank of some kind.
Interesting stuff here pal, love that wind tunnel model (you can see where RJ built in those rocker cover bumps to take a real engine at some point ;) Good luck with the rivets pal ;D

I'm surprised you didn't get these mystery items Roger. You are correct on the ammo drum ;)
The bulges I believe were meant to represent the exhaust stacks old bean, none of that Griffon rubbish ;D

Is no. 48 a fuel filler funnel type thingy?  ??? It would stop fuel splashing on to hot exhausts...

Very close Simmer ;) Actually it is the oil funnel for a Merlin engine!
As no-one even tried the other one I'll tell you that it is an oleo pump for adjusting the suspension on the Spit by changing the pressure in the shocks... imagine doing that by hand whilst the plane is sitting on its wheels :o

I have to say the photos coming out well was a bonus. The best bit was being in the company of friends ;D Of course some fine beer didn't hurt ;) ;D
