Interesting Photo in a Magazine

Postby RichieB16 » Fri Sep 30, 2005 10:23 pm

Well, a while back my dad got a magazine in the mail from the 101st Airborne Division Association.

Firinging a 'Nam era Colt AR left-handed wouldn't be something I'd like to try.
And perhaps that's why you're father is doing it from the right.
None-the-less, very interesting turn of events.

Cool find 8) I'd be careful with the hair jokes ;)
The AR-18 had the ejection port on the right so unless your dad wanted hot shell casings burning his face I think he probably made the right decision on using the gun right handed ;) ;D

My understanding is that he ususally shoots left handed even then (he's very good with both).  He said when that photo was taken he had just reached the Huey and turned around and started shooting (they were introuble and were being extracted).  Apparently there was a photographer in the helicopter and they had been diverted to pick them up.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of a rifle it is, because its not a standard M-16.  It is some kind of special forces carbine (perhaps an M-4?) but I know he usually shot left handed.

It is the CAR-15, the carbine version of the AR-18 (M-16)

Ozzy's right in all areas but one, it's the AR-15.
The AR-18 was the M16's somewhat unsuccessful brother.

I asked my father what is was earlier, it is a CAR-15 (like Ozzy said); an M-16 carbine.

He told me that he usually shot left with them (even though they would burn his arm) because he was a better shot.
