RAFA Show - Preview

Postby Hagar » Fri Sep 02, 2005 5:57 pm

I'm off to Biggin Hill bright & early tomorrow. Here's some of my more interesting shots from "arrivals day" at Shoreham today.

Probably the best shots I took all day.

Now for some of the more 'interesting' ones. ::)

Who can tell me what this is?

Harriers were last to arrive. Extremely noisy end to a lovely day. :D

Hope to do better on Sunday. Looks like we're in for a good show. ;)

i'd say it was a pretty good day. The Jumping J shot is very nice as it the first harrier shot. The sun placing in the second makes for a good shot to pick out the pilots head. I have always found the Lynx in the near shot, funny looking, its strange seeing it without the nose equiptment so its more an army lynx without skids.

Outstanding... I think the "mystery plane" is definitely a variation on the Rutan design; without Googling, I'll say it's a standard Long-Eze. but there are other permutations out there...

Thanks for the comments. Just a quickie before I leave for Biggin.

I think the "mystery plane" is definitely a variation on the Rutan design; without Googling, I'll say it's a standard Long-Eze. but there are other permutations out there...

It's a Rutan design alright but not one I've seen until recently. This one is a sophisticated 4-seater cabin tourer with fully retractable gear. Listed as a Velocity 173RG Elite.

Is it possible you could tell me what aircraft Photo 8 is?

It's a Catalina. The famous "Cat" or PBY. More correctly the Canadian version, ex-RCAF PBV-1 Canso A (built by Canadian Vickers) owned & operated by Plane Sailing at Duxford. http://catalinabookings.org/aircraft.asp

Okay Doug I can take no more :o

Enough is enough ::)

I can't take it no more :( :( :(

Have you thought of adopting someone over sixty (60) from the colony who can reasonably cook, pour drinks when sober, drive without glasses and is willing to hang on your shirt tail to go to all the air shows?

I am available if the old girl will let me go across the pond by myself for the summer. ::)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S.  Have not asked the old girl yet :-X

I wonder who is flying the XIV this weekend as I've heard on the grapevine that John Romain is Stateside doing stuff ;)

Maybe Rod Dean or Alan Walker...

I see that's our favourite Rutan lookalike from Old Warden Doug! ;D

Excellent!
Ausgezeigt!

I've seen the "mystery plane", cut in half, up against a hangar wall at Camden airport, I'm guessing it is a Rutan design, it being similar to the Raytheon thing that looks just like it...
Still, excellent work Doug!

Blimey. I didn't expect all these replies. It's not that the photos are brilliant. Thanks for looking. ;)

Sounds good to me Doug. The terrible twins. :o :D

Your grapevine is wrong then Mark. I saw him with Ray Hanna at Biggin today. :P

I see that's our favourite Rutan lookalike from Old Warden Doug!

Sure is Charlie. It turned up at Biggin today too. :o ;)

I do my best. I was thinking of you when I took that shot. ;)
