Shobdon Air Race: A few pics for Doug...!

Postby Fozzer » Tue Aug 23, 2005 2:20 pm

A few more pics of some rarer aircraft...!

A very nice Miles Messenger. One of only two in the country..?
Image

And a very nice Chippie, if I'm not mistaken..!
Image

Another rare aircraft, the resident BA with a Pobjoy radial engine...
Image

...and a close-up of the engine. Note the geared propellor drive...Missing it's exhaust manifold...being replaced at great expense...engine needs work...etc...etc...!
Image

A regular racer: Geoffrey Boot, (a regular contributor to Pilot Magazine), and his lady wife with their Sia Marchetti race aircraft, (less cannons and missile pods)...!
Image

Cheers all...!

Paul.

P.S. sorry about the quality...never quite the same when reduced to 640X480...Buggar...:'(...!
LOL...!

Why did you reduce them so much Paul? 800 wide is better and yup that second one is a Chippie ;)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Hi Lads...!

Unfortunately....
...at 800X600 the set of 5 pics was over the 500k limit...
...innit always... :'(...!
Pete beats you with a big stick...:-[...!
LOL...!

Paul....(at 50% quality)... ;)...!

Very nice Paul. I love that BA Swallow. :D

A very nice Miles Messenger. One of only two in the country..?

Beautiful. Might be a few more around but they're getting rare now. The problem is the all-wood construction. We lost G-AJOE in Holland a couple of months ago. Fortunately the pilot & passenger were OK.

P.S. sorry about the quality...never quite the same when reduced to 640X480...

800 width is definitely better.

PS. You can reduce the JPEG compression to suit in IrfanView.

Hi Kev...!

...what do you mean "THING"?....bleedin' cheek...!....it's our annual fantastic air-race...!
LOL...!
In these particular shots, only the Sia Marchetti with Geoffrey Boot and his lady wife on board actually raced...

Doug would have been interested with the Miles Messenger and the BA Swallow, he is familliar with them.
The Swallow is a resident aeroplane at Shobdon.
The Miles is an occasional visitor.
...and Doug would also be aware of Geoffrey Boot, (the Pilot Magazine contributor, racer, instructor, owner of an expensive aeroplane less rockets and cannons, etc),...!
LOL...!

Cheers Kev...!

Paul...happy, if slightly sunburnt... 8)...!
