A Wednesday night suprise.

Postby eno » Sun Aug 21, 2005 3:39 pm

I was getting ready to goto work on Wednesday night when i heard the familiar sound of a Hotair Balloon gas jet firing off. We get balloons passing over quite frequently on nice evenings during the summer, obviously depending on prevailing winds.
The difference last Wednesday night was how loud the sound of the jet was. I grabbed the camera, ran ouside and snapped a few shots.

The Balloonneer was either aborting a landing on the local playing field, there was a football match going on at the time, or he was showing of to the passengers. My neighbour had been at the pub opposite the field and said that they skimmed the 10ft hedge at the far end and only just got over the trees at the near end of the field.

Heres the shots.

Still dropping at this point

Climbing out over the pub.

Just clipping the trees outside my house.

A burn to gain height.

Away safely ...... but only just.

We assumed that they made a landing a few miles away in one of the big fields beyond the village.

Nice shots Eno. Seems to me they were very lucky to get away with it.

That's awesome! We don't get a whole lot of balloons around here...once in a while, but usually far off in the distance... 8) 8)
