Departure day - Harriers

Postby Hagar » Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:24 pm

Here's the Harriers leaving. Hope to see them again in a couple of weeks. Not sure yet as they might be based at Biggin.

This is the best I could do. I'd better not tell you I missed the shots of the year, if not the decade. Two Harriers doing a fast & low beatup of the tower. I had an idea of where they were approaching from but didn't see them before they shot over the top of the hangar with the condensation shimmering. I swear I could have jumped up & touched them as they went overhead. Bam - Bam. :o :o OK, maybe not quite but it was the most impressive beatup I've ever seen & everyone on the airfield will be talking about it for years to come. Hopefully the young photographer from the Archive did better than me. He rushed off to get his film developed with a huge grin on his face. I've been promised a peek. :D

Hang on Mark. I haven't forgotten you but don't get too excited. That Spitfire jinx is still haunting me I'm afraid.

I took that specially for Felix. Shame about that darned helicopter. >:(
These are about the best I got of the Harriers. I did better last year with my old camera but the wind was all wrong this year. Like the old angler's tale, you should have seen the ones that got away. :'(

Did they pull a STOL or VTOL going out? I always wish I could  see a VTOL launch when they go out of here (KNCA) but sadly, they'd burn a hole on the rwy...trust me, they've tried it before...lit the rwy on fire, had to call the crash guys out to put it out...5/23 was out for 2 weeks while they fixed it up...

Some beautiful shots, I just might have to load a couple of mine up here...

That's usually how they'll go outta here, nozzels down slighty, roll in pairs.

We've had 6 of them working out of here the past 3 days, had FOUR off at once, two down 1/19, 2 down 5/23...AWESOME SIGHT TO SEE.

They joined up right off the departure.
