Some summer randoms, pt. 1

Postby beaky » Sun Aug 14, 2005 9:17 am

Just wanted to share some pictures I've taken in the last few weeks... some are just fun snaps, some are pretty interesting. Check it out:

No, it's okay; Runway 22R is just ahead for this UPS hauler... finding it harder to catch these KEWR arrivals with the digital than with my old camera...

Actually cooked the other night, despite the heat. This chicken turned out nicely, stuffed with bread, broccoli, onion, and garlic; got a little carried away with the cooking sherry (on the bird- I was drinking beer!), but not too bad.

WE have too many big windows here to bother with screens, so we often get winged visitors in the summer. The pigeons are a nuisance, but it was thrilling to find this enormous, beautiful dragonfly (wingspan: about 4") on the kitchen ceiling one morning. When I got home from work that day, it was desperately flinging itself at one of the sealed windows in the living room, so I carefully trapped it in a bag and turned it loose. Dragonflies are my kinda bugs...

A very random "drive-by" shot on the road to Morristown. I like the birds.

I like number one.

That is a great place you got there, lots of room inside it looks.

Cheers,

Yes, the house is big: entire top floor; 15,000 sq. ft., most of it full of junk, some belonging to folks who no longer live there... ::) The big windows visible way in the background of the P.P. table shot all face East; one can watch southbound arrivals all the way from the north end of town to the inner marker. Sometimes they come right over the building on a right base to 22. The centerlines of 22 L/R are just a few blocks to the East. One of these days I have to get a good picture from over there... no luck yet.
If you like that shot of the UPS Airbus, you should've seen the one that was totally out of focus! :D
I've got a few more on deck; mostly from work. And God knows i'll be taking more... ;D

Nice to see how other members live. I've always envied your choice of home but not sure I could handle it all the time. I like a little piece & quiet.

Keep practicing with that new camera. Takes a little getting used to but I'm sure you'll figure it out. ;)

I'm used to the traffic noise, and the way my room is situated, if the ne'er-do-wells I live with are making a ruckus, I have some relief there. We're rarely all at home at the same time, anyway. Marshall, for example, is a professional musician and teacher; he's often out of town, and is usually holed up in his room practicing when he's home. Which is pleasant- his main "axe" is the French horn, and he's very good. I've also got a downstairs neighbor who's a very good violinist- never mind it when he's practicing, either... ;D Two of the other roomies have been away all summer; that's kinda nice (fortunately they're also the two I would miss the least ;) ).
The best thing, though rare, is when I have the place to myself. Ahhhh....
And for sure I am overdue for a sabbatical from the city... later this summer I think I'll take a long weekend and go camp in the mountains with Peg... get a nice dose of fresh air, stars and gentle sounds.
