A couple of old photos....

Postby Jimbo » Thu Aug 11, 2005 10:34 am

Well my family know somebody who was in WW2 and had lived through the era.
He is a very experienced person and has fascinating storys from they old days.
He let me look at his some his photo's from a museum he took about 14 years back, and here are some of them.
He regognises most of them and brings back the memorys.

I thought i'd share some of the photo's we have been looking at, they are really good!..

Nice one Jimbo. I think that must be the BBMF Lancaster. Not sure where it was taken though. The others look like Duxford. MH434 is Ray Hanna's famous Spitfire Mk IX. It looks very different now. http://www.merlinslair.freeserve.co.uk/spit5.htm (Could be Sally B inthe background.)

HA-L is a very rare Fairey Battle. Don't know what happened to it. The only example I've seen is in the Hendon RAF Museum. XP281 is a Beagle-Auster AOP Mk 9.

Charlie or HawkerTempest will tell you the history of the others.

Years of practice & I'm still learning. ;) Charlie & Tempest are better than me & know all the details. I know what the others are, well to be honest I'm not sure if the one in Russian markings is an Airacobra or Kingcobra. I've only ever seen one P-39

Very nice. That's the first I've heard of a P-63. Whats the story with the russian markings?
