Shuttleworth Military Pageant 2

Postby Hagar » Mon Aug 08, 2005 6:24 am

You've seen these aircraft many times before but this is what the Shuttleworth Collection is all about. A living museum of rare historical aeroplanes that are actually brought out & flown at the regular displays so you can see & hear them in their element. I tried to get some good angles but the sun was not too cooperative. It's a poor workman that blames his tools but the shutter button on my camera was intermittently playing up which made life interesting to say the least. Charlie will confirm that the air got a tad blue around us at times, especially after missing that perfect shot again ....! He didn't disown me so I suppose he's used to me by now. :o ;)

The beautiful Bristol Fighter fitted with the oldest airworthy Rolls-Royce aero engine in the world. You have to hear this flying to appreciate it.

At last I did justice to the classic little SE5a.

Sopwith Pup in its new RNAS livery coming out of the sun. A little poetic licence as the sun went behind a big cloud just at the wrong moment. The anti-Zeppelin rockets were removed for the display.

The times they are a-changing. Mother & child. Hind & Sea Hurricane. One of Sydney Camm's classic Hawker biplane family with the monoplane fighter which is a direct descendant. No mistaking that pedigree.

Next, something a little different. Stay tuned. ;)

Terrific! I can easily picture the "blue cloud" you mention, looking at that light... I'm thinking royal blue. ;) :D
Great pix nonetheless- too bad they didn't demo the rockets!! ;D
Sadly, one of ORA's Sopwiths was donated to the SASM, and the other airworthy one is in for repairs, so I haven't seen one of them fly for a while...
love that Bristol, BTW!!

As mentioned, the last shot is brilliant. Its nice to see one of the WWI types (the Pup) in something other than all over "mud" and natural linen.

They're all pretty nice shots Doug. Considering the sticky shutter button, you had a sucessful afternoon! ;D

Oh My...it is nice to see real aeroplanes again Doug.

Two of my favorites...the Bristol and the SE5A :)

I think I would trade in the old girl, the kids and all the grandchildren just to own one of them ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
