Up, up & Away

Well not quite. After the show were were promised a mass balloon ascent. Not having witnessed this before I thought I might as well stop & see what it's all about. It would also give the crowd time to disperse, making it easier to get out of the airfield.

Unfortunately, at 7.00 pm the wind was still a tad too strong & gusty for this sort of thing & did not drop as it usually does in the evenings. Just as I was about to leave, one lot of intrepid balloonauts decided to have a go. It took some time to inflate the balloon but finally at about 7.20 all was ready with the basket attached to a car bumper. The following pictures show the result. Lots of clapping & jeering from their less courageous (more sensible?) colleagues. Well done anyway, it was great entertainment. Not sure I'll be trying this ballooning lark soon though.

Doug you should really try to get up in a hot air balloon.

The flying is fantastic! :D

To anyone of you that have not been to a Balloon Fest...Go...the pilots and crews are fantastic and the rides usually free.

Try to be there for the Morning Glow or the Evening Glow...I am sure you won't regret it.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Ouch. Too bad the wind wasn't right- I've only seen one mass launch, and it's pretty amazing. Much easier to photograph, too!!
