I Dream of Jet Exhaust...

;D

I am so deaf now.  Was hanging out at the end of 11L/29R doing some planespotting.  I'm a bit grumpy about getting there 5 minutes too late - I could've got some great shots of a couple F-15s, an A-10 and a KC-10 all in that time frame.

Anyway... I bring you my favourite shots of the day: a CF-188 being cheeky and trying to land on my head.

I tweaked the levels (foreground/fill flash) a hair on these last two - as I didn't have time to bugger around with the aperture.

A have a couple of the "Masters of Disaster" doing a practice run too, but I'll upload those later when I have more time.

I think I'm gonna go down to the air show tomorrow, I just have to remember to buy some more CF cards tonight.

Ooo, nice shots. I just love the Hornet.
Now was he landing or just doing a dirty pass?
Unless he had a brakes failure, I'd find it odd for him to be landing with the hook down.

(Tailhook) landing. I might add it was part of the demonstration.  Today was all practice runs and arrivals.  The actual airshow is tomorrow and Sunday.

EDIT: I found one last shot of the approach hiding in a second folder on my CF card:

Image

A farm truck drove (slowly) by right as I tripped the shutter when he hooked the cables, so I don't have any good shots of the actual landing.

Of all the demonstration I've seen the CF-188 do,
I've never seen the pilot use the tailhook on landing.
Whether it be for show, or a failure.

So they either don't do it on the west coast, or it's new to the demo.
Or you know, I just keep missing it.

I think it's new..  They set the cables up at the end of 11L - he took off from the other side (29R) (did he ever launch that bugger up fast, too) and landed at 11L.

I've seen them do such a demonstration in the past though too.  Keep in mind that I'm at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, so they have provisions for these kinds of things.

The USN's bringing a Super Hornet in to do a demo too, but I don't think it's arrived yet.

Well being at Moose Jaw would most certainly account for the tailhook landing.
You should have mentioned that before hand.

Great stuff. ;D

I am so deaf now.

I know the feeling. The pros pack a set of ear defenders these days.

Heh... well I would have brought some hearing protection if my ear defenders weren't attached to my hard hat - and 800 kilometers away in my boss' truck.  I've ran out of plugs in my workshop too.  Shame.

Ah well... puts hair on yer chest as some would say... although who said I need any more.   :P
