Me - circa 1986...

Postby Wing Nut » Mon Jun 13, 2005 6:28 pm

I dug up a few old pictures from my Army days when I was a young punk who thought I was so cool...
All of these are from when I was stationed in Korea.

I'm on the right here, on top of our M60A3 tank...

Now I'm on the left with some guy whos name I can't even remember.  ::)

They had me driving the Battalion S-4 around for a while, here's my Jeep.

Here's me trying to look cool after coming back from the field...  ::) :P

To be extra cool you should put a magazine in your Armalite ;) ;D

An A1, I thought the the US Amry adopted the M16A2 prior to '86.
Perhaps the the Army was alittle slow replacing them in units stationed abroad.

Anyone care to fill me in on this?

The M16A2 didn't come into service until the late 80's.  When I got out in 1989, we were just getting them, along with the M1A1 Abrams tanks...

Then again, armor units would get them later than infantry units would.

No wonder the North Koreans don't trust us... ;D ;)
Looks like you had fun. Sometimes wish I'd served after high school (if I had it all to do over, I'd probably go for Marine aviator), but on the other hand, I'd probably have wound up in Central America wondering what the hell I was doing there...

Great pics, Kev!

(And when I went into the Marine Corps in 94, EVERYONE was getting an A2.  Most hated it, I absolutely loved that rifle!)

If you want a bad rifle try the British SA-80, it sucks!
We went out of our way to "acquire" SLRs (FN-FAL) and M-16s rather than use the 80! Personally I loved the SLR, for sheer accuracy and stopping power it was fabulous.
However my personal favourites are the Bren (a machine gun so accurate you can use it as a snipers rifle to 800m), and the H&K MP5 for closer work (the K version is a bitch to use on automatic but you sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end!) 8)

I wanna do my service in the Luftwaffe, so that rules this kind of scenario out.
Rather expect pics of a lunatic doing all kinds of weird stuff with their equipment. ;D

Btw: A hooray for the G-36! The second best rifle in the world. Mwahaha! ;D

Second best, and just what might we be considering the first?
...G3...?

I'd personally take the G36 anyday of the week.
It's one fine piece of german craftsmanship.

Greetings from one tanker to another!  Ah, the good old M-60!  I think I saw one of those at the Patton museum when I was at Ft. Knox for tank school!! ;D  Now you have me all stirred up so that I want to post some of my pictures from Iraq.  Here is a stat only another tanker can truely appreciate, my first kill of the war occured 6 hours before the war officially started (5th Marines crossed 9 hours early to save the southern oil fields) and was a BTR at 3850 meters at night with thermals while moving at full speed over uneven terrain!  I sent an MPAT round right between the twin windsheilds.  Gotta love tanks, screw air power (unless we need them!).
