Mixed bag

Postby Hagar » Tue Apr 12, 2005 5:14 pm

By popular demand. A mixed selection from my visit to Popham last weekend in no particular order. Quality reduced to include as many as possible. Vintage light aircraft are my first love. Lots of pretty little modern types around now too.

Do you suppose the Silvaire owner's got a wee chip on his shoulder? :) ;)

It might be pure coincidence but that thought occurred to me more than once. ;)

Some interesting shots there Doug, what is #4? Looks like the product of an illicit relationship between a Moth and a Cub!!!

Glad some people like these little things as much as me. Somehow I never felt the same way about modern airliners.

Never thought about it in that way. It's a Pietenpol Air Camper. The first real homebuilt. We have several examples in the UK now & they can vary quite a bit. http://www.airventuremuseum.org/collection/aircraft/Pietenpol%20Aircamper.asp

No 2 is registered as a CP301S Smaragd (don't ask how you pronounce that) manufactured by BINDER-AVIATIK GMBH & built in 1963. To be honest I thought it was a CAP.

I had to look #3 up. It's registered as a Robin ATL L 2-seat trainer. First time I've seen one. Looks a bit like a powered glider with those long tapered wings.  Number 6 is unusual too. It's an early Jodel D120A, also built in 1963, without the usual upturned wingtips. Manufacture of the Jodel was later taken over by Avions Pierre Robin. http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/aircraft%20manufacturers/Robin.htm

I really like the AC in #3,#7 and #8! They look neat 8)

I wonder if the "G-BTCH" on the Silvaire is there on purpose ;D (If you don't understand it I won't explain it)

I just love the "G-number" on that beautiful Luscombe. I've heard they can be a bit of a handful sometimes- might be a well-deserved name! :D Coincidence or not, that's a good one!! :D :D
Thanks for more of those nice straightforward shots, Hagar. :)
