A Grand Day Out...

Postby C » Thu Apr 14, 2005 3:02 pm

Today was great. After leaving work at 1015 in the Harvard we arrived about 45 minutes later at somewhere quite special... I'll let the photo's do the talking. I apologise but I only got round to taking about 10 in all...

Something's just arrived in these... a free coconut for the correct answer

Cosmic Wind Ballerina owned by Pete Kynsey, The Fighter Collection's Chief pilot, with TFC's Hellcat and the Polikarpov, which I thought was back in Russia...

P-47, P40 and Harvard (which was my transport for the day)

An excellent day all round, being given a backstage tour of The Fighter Collection, meeting several of the collections current pilots, and being shown round the Spitfire restoration facility at Historic Flying Ltd by one of the very kind office staff...

A grand day out indeed. I apologise for the lack of airborne photos, but I was too busy admiring the view (and flying)...

You are a lucky so & so Charlie. Great stuff. I'm quite envious. :D

I remember Ballerina was a regular visitor to Shoreham in the old days. Quite possibly your Harvard too.

I know what is in those containers, and where they came from ;D
Duxford is a cool place to hangout, so which Spits were in at Historic?

What is it then Mark?

The Spit at HFL were IAC-161 (NOT for sale at any price), TD248 (a smidge under

I was at Historic just before Xmas to photograph 161 (this is just before she took to the air and was doing engine runs), courtesy of John Romain for my little project.
The crates contain something from Russia with love unless I'm much mistaken ;)

What's this I read about people over 60 getting into the next Duxford show for free? If this is the case I qualify for that. Old age does have its uses after all. :D

If its not the Hurri or the P-39 from Russian lakes then I need to get my thinking cap on for a min ;) What US aircraft are due in the UK about now? Maybe a Pr.XIX?

TFC had an Airacobra restored in the US which arrived last year and should fly agian this year, along with the long awaited P-51C, which has only flown a couple of times since it came over in the 90s... The one salvaged in Russia has I believe gone to Jim Pearce's workshops in Sussex.

Strangely enough the Spit has been registered to a certain Richard Goode in the UK, but was reportedly sold to a Frenchman (that figures, as Richard Goode does deal in aeroplanes). I'm not sure if it'll come here though or go straight to France...

The container contains....
