And finally... The "Warbird Parade", Sussex '94!!

Postby beaky » Tue Feb 15, 2005 8:42 pm

Thank you all for trying to enjoy these small, jaggy images... here are the last of 'em. The "Biggest Little Airshow in the World" always ends the show with a few fun, loose-formation circuits by some fine vintage iron...

First, the amazingly-restored "Legend Airways" DC3 picks up her skirts to strut her stuff in the air; this big  mama even has bud vases in the cabin for fresh-cut flowers. Real class.
Image

Silver Stearman  is next... a real beauty.
Image

Followed by a great SNJ... and there's a Tiger Moth! An unevenly-matched "race" is developing here...
Image

Wait a sec- what the-? THAT'S no warbird... it's the LET "Bumblebee"! So that thing actually flies...!?
Image

Behold the mighty B-25 Mitchell...
Image

Ahhh, Mustang time. Life is good. Very nice, especially the high-speed pass right on the deck...
Image

Mustn't forget this terrific C47 in Air Force livery...
Image

And here's an awesome Corsair... this pilot did a few Cuban-8s and such, after the others had landed. Showoff... hell, I'd show off, too!! :) :)

I wish you wouldn't do this to me. Every time I see the word Sussex I think you mean the real one. :P :D

Mind you, that looks like a pretty good show. ;)

LOL!! What- do you think Sussex, NJ is not real? What is it, frikkin' Brigadoon, or something?  ;) :D Well, it is magical for one weekend a year, so...
Besides, I've started several "Sussex" threads already, and they're all the same: strictly on the Jersey side (whoops, I mean NEW Jersey).  But don't worry, that's the last. Unless I make it to this year's show with a digital camera... :D!!!

Yes, these lousy caps and my old scans really don't do it justice. You know how it is...

LOL I'm only joshing as you know. ;D I'm sure you also know by now that I was born & bred in the real county of Sussex, England. It's been here since Saxon times. Sussex literally means South Saxons. England means Angle Land.

Yeah, yeah, we know all about it  ::) ;).  Not surprisingly, Sussex is also a county here in NJ.  "Angle Land", huh? Now, see, I heard it different: "Angel Land". But that's OK; I think yours suits. A crooked lot, you are... ;) ;D

Not sure about the origin of the name, but I'd guess you're right. Definitely English (that would be English, not French, right?), although I believe the Dutch were here first. Well, the first Europeans, anyway...
You've got me wondering now; I'll look into it.

Definitely English (that would be English, not French, right?),

Don't worry old chap. The Channel Islands have been part of the UK for centuries. Not sure how we were allowed to get away with that. :o ??? :D

Mind you, Jersey is only a tiny island. I suspect it's far smaller than New Jersey.

You've got me wondering now; I'll look into it.

Please do. I've always found all this fascinating. ;)

Not sure about the SNJ, but I'm pretty sure  the F4U is the one with a picture of Yosemite Sam on the cowl (coulda sworn I had another picture of it...)... would that be Sky Boss?
