only there for 10 mins as i said too cold. and there was nothing of interest well sort of.
On short finals, sun almost right behind

We left as this was on finals, my dad pointed it out and said whats that coming in, i said probably nothing special, he said well it looks big enough, so i looked again, as the sun was in my eyes, and saw the fammiliar shadow of this beast. I tore back to the viewing area to get these shots.

Maybe you can edit these a little bit more...it would make them look a bit sharper. It's hard to fix a 44kb compressed photo, but a gave it a try anyway. I'm sure that with the original file, you can get alot further and even meet the Anet standards.  



I forgot to ask what airport it was? If a tripple seven lands there, it must something big?

Hey Ken. like all my posts here, they are just quick edits as when they are resized they loose their quality anyway. None of the originals are even close to anet standards as i was pushing the limits of the lense at 300mm as you may know the sigma can get very soft at the focal length even with perfect lighting like today. I have done some work with a couple though.

Thanks:) and yes the large one is anet quality. Sadly i have the tendancy to cut the tails off of aircraft  and did so with that shot, so it would be rejected going back soon to try again anyway.

What i am hoping for this week is for the predicted snow. It would then give me a chance to really work on my photography skills. With my SLR i have never had any problems, i dont know why but my shots with the 300D have never been upto the quality i am wanting. Its not a lack of skill as i have been doing this longer than i can remember, i just think its me not using the camera enough. With the snow it would eliminate the sun which means approach shots would be easier, and ground shots would be good practice with the white balance needing to be set right.
Doug, what have you found is the best way to avoid the cutting of the tail? again its a problem i seem to be having to this camera.

As you say, it's a matter of getting used to the camera. I'd got used to my old F401 with a straight-through optical viewfinder although I still missed a few. With both my cheapo cameras I have the additonal problem of setting the zoom before pre-focusing as it can't be changed afterwards. I had a lot of problems with my S5000 when I first got it due to the digital viewfinder. This freezes the image when you press the button & although the subject is dead centre on the screen the aircraft is way out of shot when the shutter operates. It's a matter of panning through smoothly so the aircraft is still in shot. This takes a lot of practice & you have to anticipate where the aircraft will be when the shutter goes. This is very difficult at air displays unless you're familiar with the routine. I still get lots of beautiful shots of a skyscape with no aircraft in sight.

actually its only got a 4 shot buffer thanks Doug, guess its back to practising. I need to get out my SLR before i completely forget how to use that properly:)

4 shots in the buffer, but when you are about to take the fifth, the first one is already written on de CF card.

i never had any problems with this. if you take 4 shots of an aircraft, it already disappeared.
