Last of the Summer Wine II

Ben asked for some in the air but I don't have too many. Model aircraft are not exactly easy to photograph in the air although I might do better now. This is the best I can do for the time being.

Competition aerobatic soarer. Forget the name. Flies just as well either way up.




Several of us decided on a long weekend in Woody's part of the world for a change. Darkest Cornwall. Blowing a gale all the time we were there. Didn't stop us flying though.



Flying a model glider weighing less than 5 lb over the sea in a gale is a sobering experience.

Again, thanks. What beautiful country for destroying lovely models! It's worth the risk, though... kind of boring flying over a cornfield or something like that, esp. with gliders...

They might be gliders but a slope soarer in the right hands can do most things a powered model can do & some things it can't..... especially in a force 8 gale.

Actually, I forget exactly where it was. Somewhere on the very end bit of Cornwall about as far west as it's possible to go - if you get what I mean. I remember we found an old deserted airfield nearby. It has 2 big runways & the old WWII control tower in ruins. Must have been a huge airfield when it was operational. There were some go-carts & other activities going on in various places. Also some microlights based there. We made a grand sight driving down the full length of one of the runways in line abreast formation. Happy days.

No doubt it was a Coastal Command base. Not much need for any others really, except to protect Falmouth.
