#2 is a Stampe SV4. Commonly mistaken for a Moth but quite different if you know what to look for. I hope to get some shots of the real Grosvenor House in the air this season.

Thanx guys- I am embarassed about the Stampe, as I thought I knew that one well. Yes, the tail is not quite dH-style, is it? I have a shot of the nose of the Sabre- maybe I'll post it later. Sadly, most of my in-flight shots were lost (disc delaminated).

Not to worry. I probably have the advantage as I worked on the Tiger every day for over 2 years & also had my first flying lessons on them. I reckon to know almost every nut & bolt on the old girl.

Yup... don't know how I could've mistaken that tail. That is fantastic that you've spent so much hands-on time with a Moth! A far cry from the many hours I spent cleaning Cessnas and Pipers in exchange for flight time!!]

Also in view on the Tiger posted by Hagar, are the anti-spin strakes on the upper rear fuselage......don't know for sure, but I don't think any model of the Stampe was fitted with them ?........

I don't know the Stampe as well as the Tiger but I don't think they ever had anti-spin strakes. No other Moth except the Tiger has them. Of course, they weren't fitted to the Tiger until 1941 or thereabouts. My old boss, a respected veteran instructor & pioneer aviator, told me they weren't necessary & were only fitted to RAF Tigers at the same time as on the Miles Magister. After WWII most examples were ex-RAF. In the '50s you could pick up a surplus airworthy Tiger Moth for around

Thanks for the inside info Doug, I knew I could eke out a bit more on the Moth, from you...............Have you ever seen Graeme Mears model of the Tiger Moth ?.....
He was a member of the first R/C club I ever flew with and has advanced to the upper levels of R/C Scale with it .......google search his name and plane and I'm sure you will be impressed......
At the Toledo trade shot a few yrs ago, he was offered $35,000 US for it, turned it down, and went on to win at Top Gun, the premier Scale contest in the States, later that same year.

No, not that particular example but I've seen plenty of fine scale model Tigers over the years. Sadly I've lost touch with modelling now. Haven't done anything for 3 or 4 years. I have no idea how much they cost now but it strikes me that model is probably worth more than a full-sized Tiger Moth.

Did you spot my deliberate mistake? I just realised the long exhaust I mentioned in my photos is the axle. Silly old fool.
In my defence, some examples are fitted with the Hornet Moth-style exhaust system.
