Nice work, I'm assuming you took that with your digital rebel... Am I right? If so what lens did you use for that shot?

this was actually taken with a Canon Powershot A75, and the drebel isnt mine, its my highschools... I shoot with a Canon Elan 7(film) for myself) or with my parents A75... well until monday cause thats when I get my Canon 10D  :D I am rather excited, been waiting to get a dSLR of my own for a long while

edit: the 70-200 2.8L is mine though, not my schools.. the only lens my school has is the 18-55 that came with the rebel and basically I am the only one who ever uses that cam... just cause I have glass to go with it  ;)

I'm glad to hear that you are not a digital only guy, digital still has nowhere near the quality of a good 35mm photo. My advice is to never stop using film, film has been perfected over the 100s of years it has existed and digital is still in it's infancy. I myself use a Canon EOS1V with a PB-E2 power drive booster and a Speedlight 550EX. It is ideal for photography of all sorts with my 28-300mm L lens. I would suggest that lens if you ever plan on spending $2,500 on one (you could sell your 70-200L to help pay for it?), it is extremely versitile and of very high quality.

hey chomp.. i love my film.. fuji velvia being one of my favorites.. I will never stop using it just I need something to cut down on the costs such as developing and the actual film... (oh yea kodak porta is very nice too and fuji astia is up there too)

and as for the 28-300, though very verstile its not what what I am looking for in a lens.. I shoot a lot of sports.. indoor and night games, so the wider the lens goes (apeture) the better. which is why i went with the 70-200 gives me f2.8 from 70 to 200 and gives me a nice range for  indoor and outdoor sports and great for as a second lens for photo journalism.

right now though I am looking at a 17-40 f4L cause I dont have a good lens for wide angle yet. I may even end up buying a Sigma 12-24 cause I love wide angles. If and when I spend 2500 dollars on a lens, I will save up a little more and get a 300 2.8L or a 200 1.8L, but for now I am filling my holes because all I have on the wide end is a 35-80 that came with my Rebel G years ago.

Anyways, I love my Elan 7 and the Canon AE-1.. rocks the house lol.. 10D is just so I can save some $$$ in the long run.

btw, I am ordering a good amount of film online tomorrow... even though my 10D will be here tomorrow

I am getting a couple rolls of 50iso Fuji Velvia, a roll of 400iso porta, and a couple rolls of 100iso Fuji Neopan.. and maybe some ilford 3200 iso but I dunno.. I have to keep up using film.. its just so *explicit* good

edit2: One more thing... film, I have learned, is the best way to start out in photography. It teaches you how to expose unlike with digital where you can go save your badly exposed picture in editing software like Photoshop.

edit3: if a lot of people have no idea what I am talking about.. which I am assuming so... just ask me to refine it LOL heck i am thinking about taking some of the stuff out anyways

When you  talking about getting a couple of rolls of film on line, are you buying them in 50 or 100 ft ?....Thats the way I bought film back in my learning days.....loaded my snap-caps with what I thought I would need for the days shooting...........Ilford FP-4, HP-5, Kodak Plus-X, or Tri-x were just the staples I needed, along with diluted development for minimum grain........nothing quite like having the benefits of B/W film to learn proper exposure settings.............
Now its just a cost saving measure to shoot digital only, as I only view on my 19 in monitor, and to print that size for all my shots would certainly be prohibitive.......

I can only wait and save up for the DSLR in my future.....

no I havnt bought any large sheets of film yet, I am just buying a couple rolls of each for now, its cheaper than buying them at wolf camera even with shipping that way.

The reason I am buying a bunch of film is because I am going on vacation to Cabo over christmas, I wish I could buy 50ft of each of the films I am brining so I could make a bunch of 6-12 exposure rolls so I dont have to go thru all 36 til I can change the roll, but that would cost a lot of money I dont have

Why would you use a 6-12 roll You would need to carry many extra canisters along with you and that would wind up weighing alot and taking up alot of space.

BTW here is a bit of advice for all of you budding photographers: don't "chimp" (look at every photo after you take it) when you shoot digital, the one advantage digital has over film is the fact that you can take many shots of the same subject and delete all but the best.

reason 6-12 would be so nice, is so when I see something that I would like to take with a different film (color slide, BW, high iso BW..etc), far less shots i have to go thru to be able to put in another roll. Rather than being midway thru a 36exp roll.

btw, I keep review off whenever I use digital.. if I am doing sports I will do a few test shots and use the histogram to get expsure just right. If I am shooting landscapes or city life I will sometimes look at pics just to make sure exp was perfect and that I am doing everything right

One thing I did when I shot film was, to find a way to load my film the same way every time....no electric winding for me, and I could remove and replace at will any of my rolls without losing any images......nice trick if you can find a way to do it......
