Scale Dak

Postby Hagar » Fri Dec 03, 2004 3:42 pm

I just treated myself to a new scanner & printer with the intention of restoring my old family photos. I found these old shots I took with my old Canon SureShot when I was heavily involved with R/C flying some years ago. The chap in the photos is our club chairman at the time with his beautiful scale Dakota & Harvard. Unfortunately he had problems with the Harvard retracting gear so couldn't fly it on this particular day.

Two of our club members built scale Dakotas & were part of a team invited to fly them at Arnhem on the 50th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. I think there were 6 Dakotas in all & other members of the team had built Horsa gliders which were successfully towed by the Daks. This apparently went down very well with the locals & veterans & they flew from the same field the first gliders landed in back in 1944. Pete & Dave also have several beautiful scale Spitfires & Hurricanes between them & it's quite an experience watching them put on a display.

I'm still getting used to the scanner but thought these were worth posting.

Nice to see some good old fashion 35mm shots Doug.

Harvard's very nice. Very nice indeed. For that matter the Dak's not bad either!

Great fun... I've got about 6 hours on type, with a nice big brushless in the back!

Great models, that first shot could almost be a real Dak :o 8)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

It's far more impressive than it looks in my photos. Every single rivet lovingly placed by hand. They're actually blobs of PVA adhesive applied with a hypodermic syringe. A far better use than they're usually put to these days. ::) The fully retracting gear was specially designed & cost a small fortune. Not sure but I think those props are for static display only.

Very nice Dan. I'm no scale modeller either. I don't have the patience & I'm not made of money. ;)

Very nice!

I got a begginer RC plane for my b-day in August, and I let my dad fly it first. Well he could'nt control it and it got to high and flew over the woods. Well that was it, $100 down the drain. After that I said, thats it for RC planes. ;D

I still enjoy going to RC plane airshows and fly-ins. Lots of fun! :)
