Why the hell do they keep spending money making planes bigger to carry more people? You know they are going to have a hard time filling a plane that big, and you know it is going to cost more to fly it so who pays in the long run?

Not necessarily the case.  Most people don't book reservations based on what kind of plane they're flying on.  The few that do, don't usually complain that the plane is "too big".  (Usually the opposite is true!)

As for a need, there is a definite need.  Airspace is so congested at the moment, this plane will definitely help reduce that.

I also despise Airbus (I'm a diehard Boeing Boy), but I have to admit that there's something intriguing about this bird.

I am, however, reminded of another European creation that was hailed as the biggest and most beautiful in the world.

If I recall, that one didn't do so well. ;)
Great edit, Bob.

If you're referring to Concorde, I'm not sure it was ever claimed that it was the biggest but there is no doubting its beauty. It's still the most beautiful aircraft I've ever seen & ever likely to.

It was also a brilliant success - proven by remaining in regular service for some 30 years. The fact that it was not more successful had nothing to do with the design of the aircraft. It's quite possible the same will apply to the A380. ::)

Ah OK. You said European creation. I didn't even consider it to be honest as the Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Not what most Brits would consider European, especially in those days.

Since when was the Titanic beautiful?
You might not like airbus, but i totally dispise any kind of sea-faring transportation.
I think its good that somebody is actually producing somthing that will help the airways, and I'm even happier that its Europe thats doing it, because Europe needs help there more than anyone.

Ireland is not part of Europe?

This is what many Americans seem to find hard to understand. At the time Titanic was built Northern Ireland was part of Great Britain & the great British Empire. Although Ireland & Britain are geographically situated in the continent of Europe this would never have been regarded as European. Many people here (not me personally) still have problems coming to terms with being thought of as Europeans. I am English first & foremost & always will be but have no objections to being called British or European.

The mind boggles when you concider the cabin desighns for meal carts and chillers, stowages for carry on bags and gally possitions. Cart elevators toilets , stairs , Not to forget Emergency procedures for both decks and stairways. And what if they put a bump on top for the pilots, or will the teck crew be separate. and when one starts the breakfast service, How many Omelets are going to be heated 500 ? 700 ? the begining of the air cattle of people herds. But this was a funny bird when it came out too.

And the old lower loab gally looked like this
