Old Warden II

Postby Hagar » Mon May 03, 2004 4:25 am

I'm gradually learning that a few candid shots help to capture the atmosphere. These were taken at different times during the day. I hope they give some idea of the work involved during a typical display.

The tiny Hawker Cygnet replica. It was the first aircraft designed by the incredibly talented Sidney Camm. They were having problem starting it so I left them sweating. ;)

The Blackburn Monoplane. Lots of activity which gives some idea of what's involved in keeping these rare birds flying. Some of these mechanics pay for the privilege of working on them.

These were taken at the end of the day's flying. Putting the aircraft away for the night.

Some modern visitors. These guys from the Honda & Yak display teams put on a marvellous show of precision aerobatics.

One of the problems with radials. You have to turn them over before starting up to disperse the oil draining into the lower cylinders.

Discussing tactics before departing for home.

Whew - that's a relief. The Yak has a pneumatic starter. Once you run out of compressed air that's it.

The Yak threw me for a minute.  I couldn't figure out how that tail was in the air, yet the guy was leaning on the wing!  ;)
