Many WWII planes were painted pink.

Mostly photo-recce birds like this Spitfire PR.

SilverFox is right, this is a PRIX model. Its been in the US for the last couple of years, but its just returned to the UK if memory serves

just so you know alot of desert camoflage(sp?) is a pinkish color. it works much better at hiding tanks and other objects on a flat surface than a brown color

but it works - the better to hide an unarmed aircraft, which is the whole point of camouflage.

Until recently this particular Spitfire PR MK XI (PL965) was a regular on the UK display circuit. It's owned by Tony "Taff" Smith of the Real Aviation Company & was originally painted "PR Blue".*

I've seen it several times & posted my own photos of it in both colour schemes in this forum some time last year. It's been based in Florida for a while but I think Tempest told me it's now back home so I might see it again.

It always struck me that if the "PR Pink" camo was supposed to make it difficult to see, the D-Day stripes rather defeat the object.

*PS. I prefer it in blue.

This Spit is back in the UK and will be returned to PRU Blue for this years display season. It will be joined by Taff's Hurricane and a Spanish 109.
PRU Pink was used on some of the early PR Spits and during the period just after D-Day and around the time of "Market Garden" a number of FR MkIXs were painted in this scheme. As far as I can tell, it was never used on a PR MkXI. The real colour is reported to be a shade or two lighter however and is described as being white with a dash of roundel red.
