Swiss 72 Heavy, ZRH - SCL Part 1

Postby FlyingPerson » Wed Jun 24, 2009 7:07 am

I just finished my newest long-haul flight which took nearly twelve hours. Lucky I landed when I did, 'cause it seemed like my A343 got a little thirsty in the end :P So this was my first real "summer" flight: I count "summer" from the 20th of June and so on to the 20th of August. Now to start this thread with a few screenies.

Uh oh.. Swiss better clean up that mess.

Image

I then taxied to.. was it runway 34?, went through the checklist, held the brakes, and the General Electric Crappy Fan Material (Just kidding GE, I thought of it from the Hudson crash) 56-5C4s, or to use their correct name, hairdryers roared to full thrust, and then I released the brakes. Suddenly I realized - I was too heavy. I applied full reverse and full braking and full speed brakes, and then taxied back to the threshold of the runway instead. This time, I was able to takeoff in time. But just barely. The A340 climbed like a dying bird after a LOOOONG takeoff roll, using all of RWY 34.

Image

I then manually flew it up to 8,000 feet (still crappy climb rate), engaged the autopilot and made it fly up to 34,000 feet. Full thrust, and it was struggling. But at least there was a beautiful sunrise.
I love this one.

I like this one too. This was at my final cruising altitude of 37,000 feet.

The canary islands.

I had a thick overcast cloud layer below during the entire over-atlantic part of the flight.

More in part 2.

I mean Increase the cloud draw distance so you can't see any water.  like in the last one. ;)

Okay Jordan, i'll try it out. Can't figure out how to do it exactly, but how's this one?:

Click me!

Chad: Thanks for the heads up! Didn't know about that, so I got both the REX contrails and the REX roads. The grass didn't look too attractive in my opinion.

FlyingPerson,

Does that not hurt your frames? Try flying with that many clouds over New York or Seattle ;)

My frames goes down to between 11-16 in San Francisco or New York or Seattle or any other big places (with a lot of clouds), but I am used to severe stutters (before I got FSX over to D, I had it at C which had Windows Vista (hip hip horray - lag OS of the century) AND was 47 % fragmented.. it was down to 4-6 FPS in detailed areas.

And the specs for my old computer which I.. eh.. "played" FSX on at about minimum settings was: P4 2.4 GF 4 MX 420 64 MB 512 MB RAM 120 GB HD Win XP SP2.. imagine the lagging on that! :(

REX increases my FPS (FTW!), so the flights are smooth.

PS: My D drive is 30 % fragmented as well, so as soon as I get off my lazy bum and defrag it too, I guess it'll be even faster. :D

I'm really happy with my laptop.
