Barefoot over Brno

Postby krigl » Sun Sep 21, 2008 2:43 pm

I've been trying to get to grips with 'realistic' VFR flight in the Aerobat - but I found it strange to ignore the more modern navigation aids when just concentrating on piloting properly - so have gone back in time to the early days of aviation, and a Czech classic monoplane - the 1923 Avia BH.5.

Here we are at Medlanky, Brno, where I did some touch and gos.

The plane has quite a faithfull exterior model and I like the sound that goes with it.

Touching and going... it comes with a great, simple manual too.

The flight model seems to me to be a bit off though. It's supposed to have a ceiling of 6600ft but I got it to land at Lukla no problem.  :-?

After an hour or so of doing circuits we set off on a short flight to Breclav near the border with Austria. My home town of Brno looks much better in FS9 than FSX. It does help to have a few add-ons of course.  The compass is a pop-up.

The title 'Barefoot' is because that's what 'bosa' means in Czech.
Flight to Breclav continues in second thread...

Cheers

Nice looking set Roger. I haven't been over to the Czech area for awhile. Pretty area to fly in. Maybe I'll go fly around your home town of Brno. Do you have a link to that scenery in this set? Like that first shot.

Here's the Medlanky scenery, there's plenty of other stuff on that site including mesh, planes and repaints for the Czech Republic.  :)

I expect you've already got Jesenicko, right? If not, don't miss it. ;)
It's quite a nice flight up to the top of the Jesenicko region from Medlanky via Sumperk to Mikulovice.

Hi there Obrovsky, thanks a lot for the links, the site, pics, downloads are great - bookmarked! I don't seem to have any autogen within Brno so that's the first thing I'll be downloading....

Yes, the site owner can link to my shots if he likes.  :)

I sometimes go in the Medlanky bar for coffee with my children... but I doubt if the aviation/scenery guys would find me particularly interesting.  ;D

The historic aircraft site is also good, I think I've seen the Jungmann/Aero before but it was silver/white then. The blue and red looks much better - would be a great repaint for the Bucker Jungmann freeware that's out!

I've been reading about the BH.5's flight in L+K and Flying Review, it was almost as much an achievement as the original flight it seems! I'd do it myself in FS but I have too many other 'projects' underway. The recent L200 Morava flight to the North Pole and back was another crazy stunt which deserves recognition!

I love all this freeware for Brno... only thing I miss is the Cathedral - such an important part of the skyline and nobody's made it. The new airport building would be nice too...and just imagine a CIAF scenery!! perhaps one day!!  :)

For now I'll enjoy what I have from those talented Czech scenery guys.

Cheers
