Kodiak mindwarp

Postby krigl » Thu Sep 04, 2008 3:32 pm

I haven't been posting many (any) screenshots in the last couple of months because I've discovered something new and exciting to do with Flight Simulator, something I haven't really tried before.

Simulating flight.

Yes, yes, I know it's strange but apparently FS can be used for simulating flight in various kinds of aircraft and I thought I'd give it a go in my new Aerosoft Twin Otter which I got for my birthday.

I found a tute on approaches which centred around Kodiak, Alaska, so I've been doing a fair bit of flying round there and enjoying the lovely default textures there.

Checking your brakes is the first thing you should do before you taxi silly. Nice shots though

Even more important than checking brakes before taking off is making sure you have wheels, not skis. ;)

Brakes no workie too good with skis... ::)

You should have skiied on the water, then went up the slope just before the runway, reversed pitch, then killed the prats just before parking on the ramp.  Wouldn't have impressed the locals at all.  nice pics, like the difference in land class, even if it isn't correct!

Everyone's on my case, love it!! ;D

To clarify - I changed planes from a Winair one (wheels, brakes) to the red one while flying the approach to Kodiak. The brakes did work before I took off... and I'm such a cabbage that I didn't notice this plane had skis, or rather I did notice, but I thought 'Oh cool, this one has skis' and my brain left it at that... until I realised the significance of my error from the scraping noise and inability to slow down approx. halfway down the runway...

The first ballsup was less spectacular, but a lot more sim-worrying as I noticed we were getting badly low on fuel and might not make it about 15 minutes before landing. We had just enough for taxi at the end, glad I didn't need to go around...

;D

Cheers

Great shots! This is the first payware aircraft I ever got, although mine came witha bunch a Canadian/BA textures, and I can't get enough of it. I haven't tried the ones with floats or skis yet! When I do I'll try to remember that the brakes don't work! ;)

Reminds me of the first time flying the default Beaver, I knew there was a reason I took-off on water, but I forgot and tried to land on a runway. No brakes on floats either. :P
