My First EVER Screenshots

Postby drummer_tom » Tue Apr 01, 2008 9:19 am

Ok so here are my first ever screenshots so be gentle! I know they are probably awful but I thought I would give it a go. These are just taken using the Print Screen button, pasted into Paint and then saved as a JPEG and resized using the power tools for Windows XP. They were taken on a VFR Flight from DFW in Texas to Syndey's Intl Airport.

None have been edited because I don't have any software yet and I don't actually know what I am doing!!!

This is with the Abacus Airbus A380 Add-on in FS2004.

For first shots, these are nice, but here is some advice:

1. Do not show the "Red Text" in a screenshot, it gets in the way ;))
2. Do not show the ATC box in a screenshot, it is in the way of the aircraft ;)
3. Try turning off lens flare (just a personal recommendation, some people like it, I don't)
4. Use Infranview to resize and compress shots, much better than MS Paint ;).

For first attempt, they are good, and that is a big beast :)

not bad m8, last two are on the right track. Im no expert but theres loads you can do within flight sim to help attain some good shots.

I dont think, but correct me if im wrong, these methods work when your in a replay, but they defo work if you pause your flight when you think you want to take a shot.

It will affect placement of traffic if your using it and want it in the shot if you alter the time, but once paused you can change the weather, the time, display settings, traffic percentage, even change your aircraft, in fact everything.

Even if you fly on low settings, pause it then up them a little at a time and note how the light catches the aircraft, how the weather changes the way the aircraft looks in its setting and just experiment and play around a bit. Use the map view to tweak your heading and/or altitude or just fly a bit to a new heading to get the right lighting in your shots, and use say walk and follow or similar to move around your aircraft to get a good angle, spot view is ok for this but you can get some great unusual angles with walk and follow, or its equivalent freeware add on (im sure there is one)

See whats out there as regards weather and sky textures - good weather /sky effects can make a huge difference to your shot, as can good scenery.

I like to have a gander at competiton winners and gallerys just to get a feel for whats 'right' now and then but i try and go my own way and  aim for the highest quality i can with what ive got, and my PC isnt the latest with bells and whistles on so its a bit of a challenge but a fascinating challenge!

Experimentation and practice along with some good ideas and youll be amazed at what you can come up with!

These are the methods i use but i guess others do it differently!

Options - Instant Replay  ;). Just insert the time in seconds you want to replay for. Be warned though, a replay  will not show Ai traffic.

I could hardly add anything to this as there are already a lot of very good tips in this tread.
Studio V is a good place to ask questoins and learn from the answers but the real wealth of information is in the Studio V Library.

This one is especially usefull Image

I believe that you have a very good eye for a 'beginner' ... if you listen to and learn from the people in here you will definitely make progress. I'm here for two years now and I feel that I've learned a lot AND made some friends ;)

@ todayshorse: you've caught on really quick ;) Great advice! That's what this place is all about: passing on the things you've learned ... excellent display mate!
